White House will influence EPA toxic chemical assessments PDF Print E-mail
Latest News

A new policy will allow the White House to insert politics into the Environmental Protection Agency's assessments of chemicals. We are concerned, as there are dangerous chemicals being touted as ok to use to kill mold and organic chemicals produced by molds - toxins - that need to be assessed by the EPA. We can expect industry to have even more influence with this new development, which interferes with the scientific process (SMH).

YouTube: Industry's impact on the news PDF Print E-mail
Latest News

This 10 minute YouTube video, by former Fox News investigative reporters, illustrates how industry can impact what Americans see in the media. SMH is constantly aware of the reluctance of national (and occasionally, local) media to cover the major news story of how schools often provide toxic exposures to students, in addition to an education. We salute the local news stations and press who do cover the local stories related to school mold and other toxic exposures. This behind-the-scenes look at how news can be influenced is chilling and a wakeup call to those who rely on the national media for accurate information about environmental and chemical exposures.

College student/mold activist fights own cancer PDF Print E-mail
Latest News

Josh Sommer and his mother, Simone, a former physician, have fought many battles. The first was toxic mold in their North Carolina home - then, it was the health problems this brought, that decimated Simone's ability to continue practicing medicine. Then followed the inevitably related economic, continuing health, and personal difficulties to surmount. Despite this, Simone and Josh waged a battle to inform the public and legislators of the truth about toxic mold exposures, traveling to Boston and Washington, DC in this quest.  Now, they face another challenge together, as Josh, a college student, has developed a rare cancer. Together, this courageous, gifted son and mother have founded a nonprofit to inform the public about Chordoma, found at www.chordomafoundation.org (SMH)

"For me, being here now has turned into a way to save my life," he said. Only 300 people are diagnosed with chordoma each year, and very little is known of the disease which strikes at different spots along the spinal column. Chemotherapy is ineffective in its treatment, and people with chordoma have a life expectancy of around seven years. (AOL News, AP)

Toxic FEMA trailers include mold and formaldehyde PDF Print E-mail
Latest News

Mold, dangerous chemicals such as formaldehyde, and terrible odors are reported in FEMA trailers. It took the federal government over two years to determine these were unsafe, long after the complaints started. This could have been taken care of in a few days. The people inside the toxic trailers endured a hellish existence, meanwhile, with many ill and some dead. Sound familiar? This is what it is like for those inside sick school portables and buildings, often with no effective government help, whatsoever. Apparently, the people inside toxic government buildings are not the priority. (SMH)
