Tomaszewski had originally planned to seek permission from the council to spend as much as $35,000, but she said the cost of sealing a wall so that moisture can't get in turned out to be less than originally estimated.
She said a leak at the 23-year-old Freeport Middle School led to a mold problem about three weeks ago.
Tomaszewski said testing revealed the mold problem was at a low level, but some students and teachers have been relocated to other rooms, such as the computer lab, as a precaution.
She said the repairs are expected to be completed and the displaced students and teachers able to return to their rooms by the week of Jan. 21. Another recent test for mold spores, for which the school district received results today, showed air quality at the school is now within normal limits, Tomaszewski said.
The temporary fix will enable the five rooms affected by the mold to be used until the end of the school year, she said. More extensive, permanent repairs will be made this summer, when school is not in session, Tomaszewski said. An estimate is expected next week on how much those repairs will cost, she said.
