HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - Concerns about mold and air quality have school administrators in Sumner County taking aggressive action to ensure children, faculty and staff are safe.
A report last year by a contractor found that the district needs to check the heating and air system at Walton Elementary School.
"We did do that," said Jeremy Johnson, Sumner County Schools spokesman.
Johnson said the school's ventilation system was cleaned and air quality tests were done as soon as the school district received the notice.
"We did not find any mold," Johnson said.
Administrators said the school is safe and they have encountered any problems. However, another air quality test will be conducted this week to ensure children are safe. If anything is found, parents, faculty and staff will be alerted.
The principal also had a letter sent to students' parents explaining the situation, which the school district believes doesn't pose a risk to students.
Administrators said no child has become ill as a result of air quality issues at the school.

Across the nation, administrators always say, "no risk, no illness" has occurred. This is often to cover liability concerns. This is said even when there IS both risk and illness. For a Parent Checklist for School Health, go to http://www.schoolmoldhelp.org/content/categor... , on the www.schoolmoldhelp.org website. Our question is, did the cleaning precede the mold test? Did someone representing the school insurance company or school district's interests do the testing? This is essential to understand any potential conflicts of interest that often exist in these school mold situations. Independent, third party testing by parents or teacher unions often reveal different results. We hope that this school does not have a mold problem. But with the above report, so familiar to The Center for School Mold Help, we suggest that the media, parents, and teachers delve a bit deeper into the facts to doublecheck them. |
