PLEASANTVILLE--It was the first day of school, of sorts, at Leeds Avenue Elementary in Pleasantville.

Pre-k through 5th graders walked through the doors for the first time this academic year. Leeds has been closed for more than a week while workers got rid of mold.

"The staff, the students and all the people who helped us, they were so happy and the whole district pulled together and made it worthwhile for the parents and the students to return back to school today," said Nikki Smith, a teacher at the school.

Students at Leeds had been bused to neighboring schools since the year began while the mold problem was taken care of.
