UPDATE: SMH Director presents to US DOJ: ADA re: Environmental Illness PDF Print E-mail

On Monday, Jan. 10th, in San Francisco, the US Dept of Justice (DOJ), ADA section, held the final of three national hearings to engage with the public related to potential improvements in the ADA re: Equipment and Furniture.

S. Brinchman, the SMH Director, presented by phone at this meeting, on behalf of SMH and those with environmental health concerns, including MCS, mold-related illness (SBS, BRI, asthma, lung disease, etc.), and electro / RF radiation sensitivity.  Cindy Sage presented on the dangers of RF emissions from sources such as Smart Meters.

We encourage you to send in your public comments to the USDOJ on this topic, accepted through January 24, 2011.  Additional info click here and read more below . (SMH)

Public comments are now being accepted.  An archived webcast and transcripts are available from the three hearings on the US government ADA site: http://www.ada.gov.

SMH feels that ADA needs to be more aware of the needs of those with MCS. There is definite confusion on the part of the counselors at ADA, the ones we spoke with recently thought MCS was NOT covered. Also, special equipment may have to be extended to include a mold and chemical-free, shielded, protected environment, under 504, with that in place solidly, so many more with environmental sensitivities could work and the general population could be protected.
