This district claims the molds found were nontoxic. We disagree. Penicillium can be a toxin-producer. We do commend the district for moving the students. Of course, they moved them because the molds are both dangerous to health.

THIBODAUX, La. -- More than 160 students have been moved to alternate classrooms after nontoxic mold was found at Thibodaux Elementary, school officials said.
A kind of mold called cladosporium began in two rooms, but the principal said neither of those held students when the mold was found. There also was penicillin (SMH note: misspelled - should be penicillium) in one room, according to a Lafourche School Board spokesman.
When the mold spread to two more rooms, school officials moved the fourth- and fifth-graders to other sites.
In a letter to parents, Lafourch Schools Superintendent Jo Ann Matthews said that while the mold species are nontoxic, they can trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — More than 160 students were moved to alternate classrooms after nontoxic mold was found at Thibodaux Elementary, school officials said.
A kind of mold called cladosporium began in two rooms, neither of which held students when the mold was found, principal Brenda Gautreaux said. There also was penicillin in one room, Lafourche School Board spokesman Floyd Benoit said.
When the mold spread to two more rooms, school officials moved the fourth- and fifth-graders to other sites. In a letter to parents, Lafourch Schools Superintendent Jo Ann Matthews said that while the mold species are nontoxic, they can trigger allergic reactions in "sensitive" individuals.
Benoit said students would return to the building once it was cleared by ES&H Industrial Group.
