PLAINFIELD -- A lawsuit that has been hanging over the town for more than 18 months has been settled.

John Kennerson sued the town in 2005 for the alleged wrongful firing from his construction job with Select Energy Inc., a subcontractor of the Plainfield High School project. Kennerson alleged he was fired because of his complaints about mold in the ductwork of the new school building and publicity surrounding his discovery of a discarded plaque honoring World War II veterans.

Kennerson alleged town leaders urged his employer to fire him. He said the firing violated his civil rights.

Kennerson filed the suit against the Town of Plainfield, the Plainfield Board of Education, Kevin Cunningham, who was the Board of Education chairman at the time, and Paul Delmonico, chairman of the high school building committee.

Also named in the suit was John Hammond, the project manager for Select Energy.

The suit was settled in April between all town boards and individuals and Kennerson.

The settlement does not disclose the amount of any payment to Kennerson and it requires all parties to keep it confidential.

Any payment to Kennerson would be paid by the town's insurance.

The town's attorney, Michael Rose of Howd and Ludorf in Wethersfield, and Kennerson's attorney, Jacques Parenteau of Madsen, Prestley and Parenteau of New London, could not be reached for comment.

Kennerson's suit against Hammond was separate and not settled at the same time.
